Half Past Dead 2 (2007)

IMDB rating: 4.10

Plot: Long time inmate Twitch (Kurupt) gets himself transfered to a tougher prison than the re-opened Alcatraz. He claims it’s to be closer to his lady but his real motives are a bit more grandiose. There he crosses paths with Burke (Bill Goldberg) a bulky prisoner who can take care of himself. Twitch, despite being less muscular, is just as mouthy and is pretty much the same. But there is a gang war brewing between the black and hispanic inmates…

Repubs, will a win in 2010 be longterm, or similar to the events that followed 1994?
The midterms take place on November second, so this is assuming that the political tide does not change in the nine months between now and the big day. But, if current polls prove correct, republicans will gain, probably not a majority, but will gain. Here’s step by step what I think will happen. It’s ultimately a repeat of the 90s

1. The democrats either lose control (Probably not) or lose enough seats that their simple majority can’t overcome a filibuster without a decent handful of republicans joining them. Obama, like Clinton, will do this. He moves toward the center, knowing the republicans will never do the same. Since most americans are in the middle, Obama will be able to then paint himself as a moderate while painting republicans as radicals. It worked for Clinton, and history repeats itself. Many republicans have said that Obama is too liberal to do anything in the center, but that’s just underestimating a president’s will to be re-elected. Rest assured Obama will do what he has to do.

2. This balance of power will ultimatly result in the republicans shutting down the government. They did that twice in 1995. Obama, like Clinton, will have moved more toward the center, and, like the 90s, the public will blame congress, not the president, for the standstill. Just as they did in the 90s, the republicans will figure, if you can’t beat him, then half-heartedly join him while hoping for an excuse to impeach him.

3. Health care, in 2012, is a dead issue. Either it will pass in 2010 by compromising with a few decent republicans, or the right will once again obstruct reform. So, in 2012, it either died as an issue, or passed but hasn’t taken effect yet, and is a non-issue. Also, due to the rollercoaster that is the economy, recessions following expansions, and expansions following recessions, it is only natural pattern that the economy will be solid again by the election of 2012. Incumbent presidents don’t lose with a strong economy. Also, Iraq withdrawal is set to be complete by summer of this year, and likewise afghanistan by summer of 2011, so for the 2012 election, the nation will not be at war, ergo no divisive foreign policy dominating the campaign. So 2012, strong economy, no war or HC debate, didn’t the election of 1996 have a similar issueless campaign with an outcome not in your favor, republicans?

4. These events will cause democrats to gain seats for the next few elections. Following 1994, these exact events led democrats to gain in congress 1996, 1998, and 2000

5. And God help you if you try to impeach him. Is your buddy Kenneth Star about to be called in for another try?

If your point is that politically, it led to the Democrats getting back in power, you might be right. If you mean that the Republicans were not effective in doing something positive for the country, you’re wrong. Let’s not forget that healthcare reform came thanks to that Republican Congress.
God's Reporter | Feb 03, 2010

Last I looked, both Congress and the WH swing back and forth. GOP gains will be temporary, just like Democrat gains are temporary. Either adapt to the swing, or get voted out.

Bad answer. Next question.
E-5 | Feb 03, 2010

Only if they don’t lose their way like the republicans did after their 1994 victory. They lost touch with their original message of limiting government, and such, and became government growing, self empowering, greedy, power mongering, Washington elitists. That’s why they got the boot in the 2006 congressional elections.
Stan Darsh | Feb 03, 2010

That’s a fair guess. A split government with Obama as President and a Republican Congress with a strong leader may be an economic boon, as proved by the Clinton-Gingrich combination.

How would you alter your assessment should we have a protracted recession with inflation (stagflation) – an early 80s scenario, on steroids?

Farewell, My Lovely (1975)

Plot: This, the second adaptation of Raymond Chandler’s novel, is much closer to the source text than the original – _Murder, My Sweet (1944)_ (qv), which tended to avoid some of the sleazier parts of the plot – but still concerns private eye Philip Marlowe’s attempts to locate Velma, a former dancer at a seedy nightclub and the girlfriend of Moose Malloy, a petty criminal just out of prison. Marlowe finds that once he has taken the case, events conspire to put him in dangerous situations, and he is forced to follow a confusing trail of untruths and double-crosses before he is able to locate Velma.

I need opinions on this first little bit of my new novel?
Tell me what you think ;)

1994

It was a rainy June morning in Miami, Florida. My mother was fixing me a bowl of cereal in the kitchen. I sat quietly in my seat at the table awaiting my breakfast. This day was my fourth birthday, the day I’d been looking forward to for what seemed ever only now it didn’t matter. I wasn’t your average four year oldI wasprobably wiser than some adults andknew far more thanI should for my age.

My father was seated at the kitchen table starring upon the newpaper while sipping from his steaming mug of black uncreamed coffee. I can only vaguley remember his appearence it’s been so long since I last saw him.The feature I remember most thoroughly about him was his eyes, they were the strangest colour you could possibley imagine. Strange but remarkably beautiful, they were a vivid electric blue. The iris’ seemed to be alive, sparked with life, yet today drowned in some sort of misterious sorrow. I could tell this and I was only four years of age he was completley and utterly worried about something. The sudden and urgent change in his looks scared me sensless. I knew nothing could worry my father enough to show such massive amounts of such an emotion, unless these emotions pertained to either I or my mother. We were the only things capable of pursuing such misery upon him, he was easily severly worried about us.

Not only could I find worry on my fathers face but among my mothers aswell. Hers held a different sort of worry though, hers held the worry of my future, and my fathers. I had the immedient sence that my mother knew onlya fraction of what was about to happen in the next few hours. I knew nothing. As morning slowly evaporated into the afternoon so did the time I had left with my mother and father. My father didn’t remove his eyes from the newspaper once, they stayed carefully binded to the small black text. I remember walking up to him and grasping his unnaturely stone cold hands in mine and asking him what was the matter. His only response was a small meaningfulkiss on the cheek, and a forced small grimaced smile. Finaly the moment came where he pulled me into his embrace along with my erratic mother and kissed us farewell. He murmered the words ‘I love you and I’m sorry.’ Through each tearless sob thatengaged through his young yet ancient muscular body. I stayed quiet to in shock to do anything else, I was young and had no control over what would happen next. I was unsure of my future and clueless of what was occuring in the present. My tears and my mother’s drenched each others and my fathers shirts and with one last tearless cry he pulledout from the embrace. To answer the dreaded phone call, the one that would change my life. He’d been expecting it though wishing the time would never come. They found us. We knew it the night before when we saw someone shuffleing in the back yard.

Soon the men dressed in dark clothing began invading our house. The loud burst of shattering glass and sharp crack of snapping wood played out in my ears. I began to cry as my toys were crushed and the loud sounds of gunshotsbeing fired, filtered through the air. My mother held me in her arms and began sprinting for the door only to be stopped by a man with a loaded gun. I watched as my fathers hands danced with flames and striked his opponents body. A man flew intoa wall knocking down my mother’s lovely english china, it bursting on the floor. Shards of broken glass clung to my pale bare arms. I cryed out again though I couldn’t feel the pain. My fine wavy blonde hair clung to my face with the moisture of my tears.

One of the men, the leader, kicked down my father from behind, his own hands lighting up with vibrant flame. With in seconds, five of the seven men were pinning him harshly to the hard white lenolium floor of the porch. The two final gun shots rang and pierced my ears with such a sharp effect I could barely keep my eyes from closing. My father slumped fartherinto the ground and my mother cryed out his name in agony reaching out towards him. His lifeless eyes starred back at us, as the men in black hauled his limp body through the door and away from us forever.

I could barely makeout the two other men approaching us through my tear blurred vision. My mom held me tightly in her arms holding me to her chest. She didn’t sob like I, she faced the enemy with courageous eyes. But she wasn’t strong like the men and my father were, they were different, much stronger than she. My mom backed up against the kitchen counter as they got closer….and closer. The nearer they got the closer I was to blacking out. The serrated blade of a blood painted bludgeon scraped across the nape of my neck. I didn’t scream, didn’t cry I accepted it. What was the point of crying? screaming? I was going to die anyways.

One of the men lifted his lips in an evildeviouscrooked smileand plunged the knifeinto mymother’s temple. Her screamwas muffled by the other man’s hand. The man still smilin

Wow…very, um…well. I don’t really know what to say about it so far. It’s a dark beginning, that’s for sure. If it were a book that I had started reading, I would definitely continue on and want to know what happened.

You made multiple spacing and spelling errors, but I could still understand what you were trying to say. There are a few comma’s that need to be added, but all in all, it’s still an AMAZING story. It didn’t grab me at the beginning, but as I read further it became juicier and juicer. I loved it, but I’m not saying I like horror :D Keep writing, I’d love to read more of this.

Plot: Volunteering to drive his girl friend’s son home for Thanksgiving to Chicago from his boarding school in Georgia, little does Dutch expect the picaresque adventures in store for him. When a blunt, down-to-earth construction worker takes to the road with an insufferable twelve-year-old snob (desperately insecure under the surface) who doesn’t approve of him in the least, quite a bit must happen before they can reach their destination as friends— or, for that matter, get home at all.

What would you want in a "bug out" kit?
Imagine this: You are a civilian ( I spent time in the Army 18 years ago, I’m a civilian now) and you want a "bug out" kit in case of a disaster, maybe a nuclear attack? What would you want and how would you carry it?

My plan is to assemble mine in a Lawn and Garden utility cart, like the ones sold at Lowe’s/Home Depot. Its like a big sturdier version of the Red Wagons we had as kids.
Inside the wagon I want a duffel with extra clothes, a small bag with toiletries (soap, TP, tooth paste,
wash clothes, etc.). I want a roll of rope, and 2 tools; bolt cutters and a framing hammer.
I want a canteen, and a frying pan and dutch oven (both cast iron of course). I want rubber boots, a rain coat, and a blue plastic tarp. A military cot, blankets, sheets and a pillow.
Food items: A few can of stew, beans, bottled water.
I intend to have 2 weapons. I’m leaning towards a 12 ga. Remington Riot/Police type shotgun with a folding stock because it can be concealed under a blanket in the cart and it gives alot of versatility for purely defensive purposes and 12 ga. shot shells are common. Also, I intend to purchase a
glock 26 pistol in 9mm. It will conceal in my pocket as it is a sub-compact and 9mm is common
ammo. Also a ka-bar knife, pistol belt, and either a swiss army knife or a leather man multi tool.
My 2nd choice besides the shotgun would be a Bushmaster semi-auto only "M4 Style" carbine.
One or the other. I intend to have a zippo, extra flints, and fluid for fire starting?

So, any suggestion? Shotgun vs. AR15??? I’m am actually preparing for a nuclear war. : )
I expect to have to walk and pull the cat because EMP causes car not to run. Thanks.
My back was cracked up in a car wreck in ‘96. The clsest 2 nuclear targets are bothe well over 10miles away East and West of here so I don’t expect to leave town. Fall out will go into the Gulf blown south by the prevailing winds. I expect to move only a mile or 2 to a low key hideaway.
There is a 1969 2 1/2 ton diesel parked a mile from here : ) It’ll still run after EMP I think. My main concern is just the first week. Other tools, guns, implements etc. can be scrounged
One of my first orders of business right off the bat is to drive 25-30 feet of 1.25"
pipe into the ground and attach a hand pump for water. the second water table at 25-30 ft is good here. My initial retreat
is less than a mile away. So weight in the cart ain’t that big a deal, if I can pull it.
Concealibility of weapons is paramount because rogues may shoot anyone who is armed but not with them.
Liquid Iodine may work in lieu of the pills
but must be taken with 30 mins of exposure.

Usually its a Bug Out Bag or BOB…do a google search on it….that whole wagon idea is too large. Imagine all the survivors packed on a highway…you`ll end up leaving the cart and carrying an incomplete BOB. You`re better off using a framed pack or a MOLLE/ALICE pack to fit everything in. You want to be as mobile as possible. A wagon will hinder you.

Lose the following items (they are either not necessary or too heavy/bulky):

Dutch oven and cast iron fry pan- a titanium or even an aluminum cook set is smaller and much lighter and just as effective
Cot- use a sleeping pad and a sleeping bag, cot is unecessary
Pillow- use your extra clothes in a stuff sack as a pillow, regular pillow takes up too much room. you`re trying to survive not on vacation
Canned food- Go with dehydrated meals lighter weight and no need for a can opener. even MRE`s would be better than canned goods.
The shotgun or pistol (both are close range weapons.) Go with one or the other and then a rifle to hunt with.
You dont need a K-bar, swiss army knife and multi tool. Take the multitool and K-bar
the Zippo

Learn to use the Magnesium fire starter with the flint striker, its fail proof, where as the zippo can fail/break. It also way more compact than all the fuel and flint you`ll need for a zippo.

If your car is off when the nuke goes off the EMP wont affect electronics when they are off, its only when they are on.

You`ll be dead in 5 days from the fall out if you dont take Iodine pills- they prevent radiation posioning from the fallout.

I`d also bring along something to treat water, aside from boiling it- like a small backpacking filter.

Focus on Water, Shelter, Food, and Protection.
TruthSeeker818 | Feb 02, 2010

While I do not personally subscribe to your paranoia….. Why burden yourself with a huge kit….. Make a "Get-Away" bag ( what they are called in the Green Berets) that will sustain you for three days….. then explore the option of using caches…..

Select certain wilderness areas and cache supplies where you can recover them easily at some future date….. of course you must keep accurate records, package and protect the supplies, and possibly even consider a "cover story " for your activities

This would necessitate extensive planning….. you need to anticipate potential nuclear targets…. weather patterns… firestorm…. public panic….. water sources…. etc

You would need to predict your probable actions……where you would take refuge and defensive positions might be located ……

You might even turn all your work into a planning guide for others who share your mindset….. I have at least one friend who would buy it

BTW an EMP only effects those items in operation at the time…. those vehicles that are stored would not be impacted…. and not all vehicles use chip technology….. they would also be safe…..do your research

My first love – we're now talking again on myspace!?
met this girl in 7th grade in 2002, i fell for her we hang out together we were very good friends. When ever she came around i had butterflies in my stomach. We had a couple of classes together, so, when we were in the same class i would look at her most of the classtime, and then look at the teacher again, at lunch time, i always wanted to sit next to her. I was to shy to tell her, cause she was my first love, (i’m still too shy) even though i already had two girlfriends.

The story is: I met her in 7th grade in 2002, we hung out together only in school, people where teasing me cause i liked her a lot, they we’re already calling us boyfriend/girlfriend (which we weren’t), but secretly that’s how i was feeling about her.

I would say "we’re just friends", that’s cause i was to shy to tel her how i felt about her, and we had school together for the next 2 and half years, (8th grade in 2003, and the beginning of 9th grade in 2004). I told myself that i was going to tell her how i felt about her in high school. But that never happened.

I hung out with her as much as i could, but i was out of school most of my freshman year (9th grade) cause of a bad cold. and when i came back to school. She had already moved away. I never got to tell her how i felt about her, since then i’ve been searching for her, as someone of you might remember one of my first questions on yahoo http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index; _ylt=AkYJPrte0yIq.YFF6r0YZzTty6IX;_ylv=3 ?qid=20060731113024AAT0bWR

I have finally found her on myspace, we’re now friends on myspace, and we’ve been talking a lot now.

But there are a couple of problems, the first problem is that she lives in apple valley (san bernardino county, california) and i live in laguna hills (orange county, california). The second problem is she has a boyfriend now. and i still have feelings for her.

The first two girlfriends that i had were not a good choice, they didn’t treat me good at all my ex-girlfriend was being controlled by another girl and (she wasn’t allowed to have a boyfriend, due to her previous boyfriend before me). And the girl before my ex it was just really a school relationship actually both were really school relationship.

At first i though that there the one i was meant to be with, but i guess not. And, i know that i still have feelings for my first love, (she doesn’t know yet). I have never told her how i felt about her. I never got the change to tell her. I’m still to shy to tell her, we also want to see each each, we’re planning i trip sometime in the summer, either i wil go up to apple valley, or she’ll come town laguna hills. Don’t know what exactly at the point, but i do want to see her again. And be with her, but now that she has a boyfriend, and i still have feelings for her, i don’t want to show my feelings for her, cause her boyfriend well still be there, i don’t want him to get jealous and i don’t want to scare her, we first have to build up a friendship again, and i know it will talke a while for that to happen, cause we’ve been apart from each for a long time. And, i recently made contact with her on myspace in either 2007 or 2008 i don’t actually remember what year we made contact with each other. She’s all i’ve been thinking about, it’s kind of hard to deal with not seeing her anymore. I would like to eventually tell her how i fell about her.

What do you think about this?

Is there any chance she might break up with her boyfriend sometime in the future? If it’s not the kind of relationship that will eventually become a permanent one in the future…if a break-up happens, at the right time, you can tell her how you feel and how much you care about her. She may even have, or in the past, had unspoken feelings for you too?

I understand completely what you’re going through about a first love who is a friend, although in my case it was pre-Internet :) She was my best friend in the world at the time, and the first out of only 2 girls I’ve ever told personally that I loved her, and I knew her for about 7 years total. Although it was unrequited, she was one of the most special people I’ve ever known and we remained very close friends.

Good luck & sincerely hope everything works out for you!

There’s also a local detective (Swank) who is conducting her own personal investigation… of his partner’s death. Will it all come crashing down on him?

Does this sound like bipolar disorder?
Sorry it’s so long.

There was a period in my life a few years ago where I know I was definitely depressed. This was around the time a close family member was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and it put a lot of strain on me.

During this time I also had panic attacks whenever I had to communicate with others and so became increasingly isolated and then increasingly depressed. It went on and on and things in life seemed to be falling apart. Around this time I was also severely anemic, but I got some iron tablets from the doctor and after a few months that cleared up completely, but my depression didn’t go away. I was sleeping all the time and barely eating, I was probably just about borderline anorexic (due to loss of apetite). Towards the end of this, someone I barely knew died and it had a huge effect on me, even though I barely knew the guy and I had experienced death before, and the person had been much closer to me.

I had a fight with a friend over something stupid and very small (in the wide scheme of things anyway), and became suicidal. It was like the last bit of life just seeped out of me. I didn’t have any fight left. I wanted to give up. Cease existing. I hoped there wasn’t a God so I would experience no afterlife. Up till this period I had been extremely aggressive all the time and lashed out for little reason. I even remember once physically attacking my sister after she had tossed a pencil at me!

After deciding I was going to kill myself, I became serenely calm. Somehow, I still got myself out of bed in the morning and went to work, but I was basically an empty shell. I was the most unproductive in my life that I’ve ever been.

On the day of my planned suicide I went to the graveyard to visit the guy who had died (that I barely even knew), and just sat there a while. My plan was that that night I would slit my wrists, late enough for no one to call on me, but early enough for me to die before morning.

However, while I was at the graveyard, something very odd happened (I doubt you’ll believe me), but it was like I had some totally crazy awakening. I’ve tried to explain this to myself but can’t come up with anything that makes sense, so I’ll tell it to you as it felt at the time.

It was like something passed through me, from behind, and ripped all the darkness out of my soul. Well, really it was like I’d had no soul and now it had returned to me. It was very strange and hard to explain. Anyways, I was totally spooked. I didn’t feel alone, and I just ran out of there and back to work (I’d just left when I shouldn’t have without even saying anything). But it was like everything I saw was different. It was all the same but just different somehow.

I turned up at work and went back to my desk as if nothing had happened.

It didn’t happen straight away but shortly after this incident I became higher than I’ve ever been in my life, but I wasn’t on any drugs or anything. After the graveyard, I totally FORGOT my plan to kill myself (!!!!). After this period, everything became totally insane. I had this new firm belief in God, and a firm belief that everything in the world was perfect and everything would work out fine for me no matter what. I fell crazy, madly in love with my boss (who was married!! this is so unlike me), and I just couldn’t leave him alone no matter what. I never stopped thinking about him. It was like a crazy obsession.

I drew a lot more in this time than I ever had in my life and I experienced periods of insomnia. I also still had the panic attacks but they didn’t depress me and for some reason I kept going even when they happened. My end of year review at work was awful because I had hardly done any work. I was shocked cos I was sure everything was going to be amazing anyway.

I felt as I had been in some way enlightened, and that God had chosen to save me from suicide. Crazy, huh? I’ve no doubt that this isn’t normal, but is it bipolar?

Right now I don’t seem to have any symptoms. I don’t even have the panic attacks anymore. What do you think happened to me? I’ve never heard of anything exactly like this happening to someone.

I bought DDR S+ and also purchased a couple of their in app features. Is this charged to my itunes account?
I have enough money on my account to pay for the two in app features, but my money did not go down when I recently checked it.
