Are these symptoms of a mental disorder?
My mother has always been a little on the strange side, which has never been a real issue. But she’s also had some very awkward and frustrating ways about her.

Examples:
My boyfriend and I visited her and my father, we made some crepes at night. In the morning, my mother saw us straight after we woke up and demanded that we clean the kitchen immediately.
We cleaned all the mess from the crepes in the kitchen up(we missed a tiny bit of spilled sugar on the top bench) she then demanded that we clean all the dishes in the kitchen(which were there when we arrived). She pointed to an egg carton beneath some tea-towels, and said that we must have hidden it there. (Which we didn’t, why would we bother?) She then pointed to some breakfast dishes and said "look at these breakfast dishes, clean them now!" even though we hadn’t even had breakfast yet.
My father then had a ‘discussion’ with her, saying we don’t need to clean her mess up. She then said "The onus is on them to clean the kitchen, they’re the guests!" And she used the word ‘onus’ about 6 times.

When I was younger, she took me clothes shopping. She took me into a plus size clothing store and spoke to the store assistant. The store assistant said they didn’t have any clothes that would fit me, and that we should try a regular store. My mother still told me to try on the clothes from that store, i tried on 4 pairs of jeans – all were too big.

She often invents stories to show off her intellect. She lies about facts and gets very mad when someone else knows more than her.

She uses obscure words, but not regularly. She seems to use one obscure word for a day or two, then move on to another one. If someone asks her what the word means, she acts shocked – as if they didn’t know what that meant.

Some planes flew over our house, quite low, as a part of a show for a car race. She thought it was a bomb raid and freaked out.

I went to buy a dressing gown, and she said "why are you looking here, they don’t have size XXXL" even though i am an M

She visited my house, and I had the dogs up on the old sofa. She started to tell me off for not having a sheet on the couch, to keep it cleaner. (Even though our house is always clean, and her house is a mess)

On that same visit(which she knew our house would be immaculate, because we had an inspection) she barged into our bedroom and passed judgment. She then acted surprised at the floors being clean.

She often makes rude comments about my boyfriend’s mother’s weight. She talked about hiking once, and his mum is a good walker, and my mother refused to believe that she was.

When my bf’s mum bought my mum some expensive shortbread biscuits, my mother "knew" that they were $2 made in china from cheap as chips. They were worth over $20.

She seems to think that everyone is scheming and sly. She also takes any opportunity she can to insult people about their weight. She is paranoid. She won’t ever accept that she is wrong, even when it is blatant. She makes unreasonable demands and tries to put blame on others in order to avoid work. She constantly tries to prove that she has a superior intellect to those around her. She never admits weakness or failure.

I think there is something wrong here, is there a specific illness which she seems to be a sufferer of?

Have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narcissisti c_personality & see if you think it’s a good match. Alternatively, you’ll find links from the text to other disorders which may be a better match.
The problem is that people with these disorders are not the ones who suffer, so they never accept help.

Reading all of this one thing becomes clear to me is that your mother is a very likely candidate for vitamin B12 deficiency.

Paranoia can be caused by B12 deficiency and this vitamin is needed to maintain good stress levels (plane over the house incident).

Another deficiency symptom is mania. A few symptoms of mania are grandiose feelings – boastful self-importance or display/larger-than-life feelings of superiority, obsessive behavior (in your mother’s case making sure everything is clean), impulsiveness, irritability, and frequently denying anything is wrong with them. There are far more symptoms than this and are listed on different websites.

It would not surprise me at all if your mother had a B12 test and was found deficient. This vitamin is essential to brain function!!! and is quite commonly misdiagnosed or not picked up at all which is a terrible thing as left untreated it will eventually cause permanent brain and nerve damage.

With this vitamin you can exhibit deficiency symptoms even if tests come back in the low normal range. I would advise a level of over 600pmol but aim for 800pmol and higher for optimal health. I would also suggest a pernicious anaemia test. Pernicious anaemia is an auto immune disease in where the body cannot absorb B12 and sublingual tablets or vitamin sprays (both which go under the tongue) are needed. To boost levels initially the doctor might give a few injections but it can be maintained without needles.

Check your mothers fingernails and see if she has moons on them. I have no moons, except on my thumb nails, which is from a prolonged B12 deficiency. Also white spot on the forearms can show up. Not everyone with B12 deficiency has the same symptoms so it is essential to have tests done.

my religious views changed after i got married…. and i'm a moron?
i think that my other post, which i will link to later, lacked a lot of details that provide perspective. as i said there after a few years of struggling with my Christianity i realized that my beliefs where based on fear and comfort, and i realized that it wasnt who i was and that i needed to get a handle on who i really was, and i realized i wasnt a religious person, i just grew up in a religious household. when i told my wife this she came apart at the seems. i had brought it up a few times but she always shut me down by saying things like "i dont believe that, your just confused" and "i cant handle it if you dont love jesus", so i would let it go for a few months and she would pretend nothing happened. after i made her accept it, and explained that i was miserable because i needed her to be there for me through this, she was really hurt, felt betrayed and said she didnt want to have kids with an atheist and have them be confused, and growing up in a simmilar situation i cant say i blame her. but on to the new dirt:

its hard to get her to communicate, because she doesn’t consider divorce an option (she used to threaten but when i suggested a trial separation while seeking counseling she said point blank she doesn’t believe in divorce), and she has said repeatedly in the last week that if we do divorce she will feel like a total dailure. it seems like she often wont be honest because she is afraid of pushing me over the edge, she will agree just to stop the fighting and then the problems come up later after they’ve festered. it makes it really hard to get anything done because she will freak out and shut down as soon as it gets too uncomfortable. its not like its the first time we’ve talked about separating, though before its always been some selfish and immature act on my part. usually its something stupid like me hanging out with friends too much and not coming home right after work, or not answering my phone cause i know she’s pissed and dont want to deal with it, but those little things make her bring up the stuff that no one should tolerate (and i cant believe she did), like 2 car accidents in a month cause i blacked out, or moving 600 miles for my dream job and then me failing the drug test. i cant blame her when she throws it in my face, because i know i’ve brought it on my self and any person who believed in divorce would have left already, but at the same time its going on a year since i did anything stupid, and its still getting thrown in my face all the time and i know it will be the same way with this for at least the next 4 or 5 years, probably longer because an isolated action gets farther behind you but religious beliefs are there every day

another thing is that i really dont think it would be fair to my (future) kids to expect them to grow up with parents having different beliefs. my parents tried to do the same thing you suggested, and it just didnt work, even though my dad supported my mom to my face, i caught on very young that it didnt mean much to him, and the fighting created a lot of turbulence in my life that made me think it was normal to fight every day.

i might feel better about not having kids if we had more in common, but truth be told i can count the things we have in common on one hand, and i dont think its enough to base a relationship on, its like : we’re dieting together, we like to go to movies, we like camping and hiking, and we want kids… thats mpretty much it. when we got together religion was a huge common denominator and now thats gone, and without that i just cant see how theres enough to base a relationship on. when i imagine myself in 20 years, its either single or midle aged and divorced, and it will be alot harder to rebuild when i’m 45, fat, balding and divorced then when i’m 24 and divorced. i was talking to a woman i grew up with (she has nothing to do with this, she just called me out of the blue last night after not talking since before the wedding) and as we talked i remembered that me and this person had everything in common, and my wife and i have nothing other than 6 years of rocky relationship and blind love, hiking and watching heroes. what kind of life is that? i know i could find SOMEONE who was a better match for me, and my wife can to because she is an incredible person (putting up with me for 5 years proves that)

it would be easy if she had been an @$$ hole too, but she always stuck by me and helped me pull myself together, she is my best friend. i’m just not sure i’m willing to bet on us working things out to the point where either of us will be really happy, and I would be doing her as much of a disservice by letting her faith keep her in a miserable relationship as i have by being an immature little shit for the last 3 years. we’re going to give counseling a try, and i’m still considering a trial separation, but i have a feeling that might hurt her more than it helps, because she will be embarrassed when she cant hide it fro
be knott wildered: i welcome your input, i liked your answer about that question as well, and i appreciate that you are contemplating your answer. to answer a cuople things that came up in the questions:

yes i have considered this a lot, and whether or not i should get divorced boils down to whether or not my wife and myself can be happy in our lives together, and not just if we can "survive". i love my wife, and i took my vows seriously, but more than the words i spoke i believe that its my responsibility to do whats best for her as well as myself, and if that means setting her free from a relationship her faith wont let her end, so be it. its not about "the grass being greener" or not taking my vows seriously its about not wanting either of us to settle for an unhappy, frustrating existance. she has calmed down a little, and i perposed to her that we get into counceling ASAP, that i would give it 6 months and if things are looking better i’ll give it 6 more. if things look………
the same or worse in 6 months then its time for a trial separation, and would keep going to counceling during that time till we decided what we want . as for this female friend i’m not interested in her at all, she might as well be my sister, and we arent planning to spend any time together in the near future, i only mentioned it because it make me think about how little my wife and i had in common, and that we could probably both find people that we could have a strong relationship with based on true similarities, rather than based on loyalty, emotion and 2 totally opposite people getting married at 21. you also have to realize that my wife wont consider divorce unless i beat her or cheat on her, and even then i dont know that she would. she is totally apposed to a divorce under any circumstances so she wont consider that she might be happier, and that puts alot of pressure on me and makes he feel like a douche bag for thinking about divorce at all.
…. but how can i not consider it? all i’ve done is our relationship is crap on her and take advantage of her forgiveness, if she had done it to me i dont think i would have stayed, or at least i would have. on the one hand it makes me love her all the more, how can i not? but i learned a long time ago that emotion and sex cant hold you to someone forever, they have to fulfill you and be in sync with you, and i’m not sure my wife is capable of that.

while we where talking today (it was a pretty good day compared to the last month) we commited to do some stuff together, and to do more stuff apart, the hoe being that we can find a healthy balance between she/me and "us", because we always tended to cling and suffocate eachother when we wherent fighting.
as for god, i think there is likely an intelligence behind the universe, but i reject any human vision of god because they are all based on assumption, myth and superstition. i choose free will & happiness, let "God" worry about god.

Heihei | Feb 01, 2010

It sounds like you are going through some personal issues and bringing them into your marriage. Do you even want to save your marriage at this point? I’m not entirely sure you do by the way you come off. Talking to someone else, even a just a "female friend", when in trouble with your partner is never a good idea. It only opens the door for more mischief. The grass always looks greener on the other side.

She is your best friend and she has continued to stick by you through thick and thin. What more can you want from her? To be accepting of the fact that you’ve suddenly become Atheist? Like I told you in your other post, I’m a Christian woman myself and I’d be pissed if my fiance suddenly decided after several years of marriage that he wasn’t a believer. That doesn’t mean you can’t work through things, but it’s probably going to be difficult for her to accept that her husband has lost his faith. If you want to work through things because it sounds as if you are strongly considering divorce.
happily*waiting | Feb 01, 2010

Wow. You have given this some thought, haven’t you? That is good, this is a serious thing and deserves some serious introspection.

Hmm… do you consider yourself an atheist, now? And why, exactly? Or do you think there may be a different way to practice your beliefs? I am a practicing Catholic, but I believe when Christ spoke of "many mansions in my Father’s house" he was referring to the many different ways we can come to God. It is not like the Catholics are the only ones right and the Baptists are all going to Hell. We all revere the same God. Anyway, is that it?

And your wife, she has stuck by you during your less than shining moments. Would you have done the same if the roles were reversed? And while it is not good to keep harping on your mistakes and throwing them in your face, you do realize that they are difficult for her to get past, right? Forgiveness is not a one shot deal for us mere mortals. The bigger the hurt, the more we must forgive, and that takes time and practice.

As for that friend… don’t go there. She may mean well, but it is too dangerous for you and the state of your marriage for you to renew even a platonic friendship with her.

Do you honor your wife? Your commitment? Or do you think that since you think you do not believe in God anymore that the promises you made on your wedding day are null and void now? Even atheists get married and see it through, because of integrity and commitment to each other.

I think counseling is a good idea. But both you and your wife should keep in mind that things are going to surface that are not pleasant for either of you. It is not all good touchy/feely stuff. There may well be some hurt to go through. Do you think the both of you are strong enough?

This crisis can bring the two of you closer, or rip you apart, but I think that it is up to the both of you as to the outcome. Good luck, and dare I say it – God bless.

I liked your answer to "Anyone else find it ironic when a creationist demands PROOF for evolution?" I gave you a thumbs up. I am going to answer this question in a bit, but since you do not accept email I had no other way to get a message to you. If you do not mind, look at my answer (just below yours) and if you like it, give me a thumbs up. If you do not, then don’t. Honesty I can take.

I am going to have to think a bit before answering this question. You do not need a knee-jerk response but rather a well-considered one. The only thing that will keep me from finishing this is Yahoo will not let me edit it. That happens once in a while. I asked a question about that recently. I am not the only one evidently.

The movie that I really liked was Sherlock Holmes ( this was a back up movie as Avatar was all sold out) as movie really had allot of action and fighting. In other words it really moved along without dragging on as I didn’t even check my watch too busy being engaged in the movie.

If you never been a big fan of Holmes and found it kind of dry and boring this version really is kicked up a couple notches. This isn’t your Grandfathers’ Sherlock Holmes.

I also thought the acting by Robert Downy and chemistry he had with Jude Law (played his partner Dr.Watson) was top notch.

Can’t wait until they make another movie in this anthology as Holmes battle his nemesis Professor Moriarty.

My mom tried to kill/ hurt me, but no one believes me. Now I'm waiting, and scared. Help!?
When I was young, I was removed from her house, because she tried to kill me in public. Then people realized she had been ‘hurting’ me for years. I had tried to tell them for awhile, but no one believed me.

I had nothing to do with her for a few years, then had ’supervised’ visits. A few weeks ago I decided to visit her. I figured since our ’supervised’ visits went well, that she wouldn’t pull anything. She attacked me, and I managed to leave. But no one believes me, even with my damage.

The police said "Why would a mother do that to her child?" My close family just tells me to stop it. I know it was dumb of me to see her by myself…. but that aside, what should I do?

I was removed about 10 years ago as a teen. I’m an adult now. I live far away from her. But I still am scared.

She’s the kind of person that would find a way to get me, even if she couldn’t physically do it. (like she would call my local police and tell them I have illegal guns or drugs, in an attempt to get me arrested and my house searched) Or she will say I attacked her and ran away. (Then she will literally attack herself to have bruises) She has pulled crap like this for years (and always gets away with it.) I know she’s looking for power and control.

She has been diagnosed with numerous mental issues. (Borderline, bipolar, munchausen b.p.) I’m petrified, and don’t know what to do. I know she’s going to do something.. i just don’t know what. But I cant get help if no one believes me! Any suggestions will help.

Well for starters don’t ever go over there again!! Do you live close by? Maybe you should think about moving far away. Get a job out of state, pack up, and move without leaving a forwarding address. There must be something else going on if the police did not believe you. Make sure you don’t have anything illegal in your house, don’t do anything against the law, and they will never have anything to use against you if your mother does pull something. Make a police report so that there is at least a record of something, (anyone can make a police report) and then get a restraining order against her. If she violates the restraining order in any way, call the police to have her arrested.
whinie_p | Feb 08, 2010

move, change your name, don’t let her have your address or phone number.

if you suspect any of your friends or other relatives wil give out your address or phone number, don’t tell them the info.

Moving out of the country might help you be calmer.
Also, get a psychiatrist, because if she is Borderline, you need a psychiatrist to help you learn what normal really is.

Steer clear of her, and if you think a meeting is imminent, or she calls you, then try and record it (most cell phones can do that).

You could also write a prepared statement, preferably notarized and countersigned, explaining the situation, and its history, with an accurate diagnosis of her mental condition, that you can produce if one of the sort of things you are worried about actually occurs.

Good luck

you should get a restraining order sometimes called a PROTECTIVE ORDER against her. your past issues should be documented and that should help u with obtaining a restraining order /PROTECTIVE ORDER.

Half Past Dead 2
Half Past Dead 2 (2007)

IMDB rating: 4.10

Plot: Long time inmate Twitch (Kurupt) gets himself transfered to a tougher prison than the re-opened Alcatraz. He claims it’s to be closer to his lady but his real motives are a bit more grandiose. There he crosses paths with Burke (Bill Goldberg) a bulky prisoner who can take care of himself. Twitch, despite being less muscular, is just as mouthy and is pretty much the same. But there is a gang war brewing between the black and hispanic inmates…

Repubs, will a win in 2010 be longterm, or similar to the events that followed 1994?
The midterms take place on November second, so this is assuming that the political tide does not change in the nine months between now and the big day. But, if current polls prove correct, republicans will gain, probably not a majority, but will gain. Here’s step by step what I think will happen. It’s ultimately a repeat of the 90s

1. The democrats either lose control (Probably not) or lose enough seats that their simple majority can’t overcome a filibuster without a decent handful of republicans joining them. Obama, like Clinton, will do this. He moves toward the center, knowing the republicans will never do the same. Since most americans are in the middle, Obama will be able to then paint himself as a moderate while painting republicans as radicals. It worked for Clinton, and history repeats itself. Many republicans have said that Obama is too liberal to do anything in the center, but that’s just underestimating a president’s will to be re-elected. Rest assured Obama will do what he has to do.

2. This balance of power will ultimatly result in the republicans shutting down the government. They did that twice in 1995. Obama, like Clinton, will have moved more toward the center, and, like the 90s, the public will blame congress, not the president, for the standstill. Just as they did in the 90s, the republicans will figure, if you can’t beat him, then half-heartedly join him while hoping for an excuse to impeach him.

3. Health care, in 2012, is a dead issue. Either it will pass in 2010 by compromising with a few decent republicans, or the right will once again obstruct reform. So, in 2012, it either died as an issue, or passed but hasn’t taken effect yet, and is a non-issue. Also, due to the rollercoaster that is the economy, recessions following expansions, and expansions following recessions, it is only natural pattern that the economy will be solid again by the election of 2012. Incumbent presidents don’t lose with a strong economy. Also, Iraq withdrawal is set to be complete by summer of this year, and likewise afghanistan by summer of 2011, so for the 2012 election, the nation will not be at war, ergo no divisive foreign policy dominating the campaign. So 2012, strong economy, no war or HC debate, didn’t the election of 1996 have a similar issueless campaign with an outcome not in your favor, republicans?

4. These events will cause democrats to gain seats for the next few elections. Following 1994, these exact events led democrats to gain in congress 1996, 1998, and 2000

5. And God help you if you try to impeach him. Is your buddy Kenneth Star about to be called in for another try?

Your Assistant | Feb 03, 2010

If your point is that politically, it led to the Democrats getting back in power, you might be right. If you mean that the Republicans were not effective in doing something positive for the country, you’re wrong. Let’s not forget that healthcare reform came thanks to that Republican Congress.
God's Reporter | Feb 03, 2010

Last I looked, both Congress and the WH swing back and forth. GOP gains will be temporary, just like Democrat gains are temporary. Either adapt to the swing, or get voted out.

Bad answer. Next question.
E-5 | Feb 03, 2010

Only if they don’t lose their way like the republicans did after their 1994 victory. They lost touch with their original message of limiting government, and such, and became government growing, self empowering, greedy, power mongering, Washington elitists. That’s why they got the boot in the 2006 congressional elections.
Stan Darsh | Feb 03, 2010

That’s a fair guess. A split government with Obama as President and a Republican Congress with a strong leader may be an economic boon, as proved by the Clinton-Gingrich combination.

How would you alter your assessment should we have a protracted recession with inflation (stagflation) – an early 80s scenario, on steroids?

Good Work everyone Appreciated and hey Impulse how bout a Top 10 then LOLz
Rob-O It was based on a series of polls I did for each year of last decade where I listed a whole bunch of albums for the year and got people to choose their favourites. These were the ones that got more than 3 votes.
***This is working out well to separate the nominations that seemed out of place or may have been released in a weaker year for Hip Hop so please keep nominating because each no 1 vote is worth 50 points each no 2 49 etc… and will be used to separate up the final results for the clearest picture***
I can’t choose a best answer so thanks for your efforts! To be continued…

are you serious????

50. Stillmatic – Nas

I haven’t listened to MMLP, Fantastic Vol. 2, and Stillmatic since I was like 13 years old or younger. So my memory on how good those albums were might be a little off.

I did the list this time on overall quality heavily weighted on production. But some albums surpassed other better produced albums based on the quality of the rapping (like Industry Shakedown). My list is pretty accurate in terms of the order. But whenever you make a top 50 of anything, the order of the lower ones is going to be relatively half @ssed.

BTW, With this answer I finally reached Level 5. It’s about time. It only took me about 1 and 1/2 years.
